How to minimize the environmental impact of desizing process

Back
1 Addressing the issue

To address the environmental impact of desizing, we partnered up with Jeanologia, the innovative and multicultural company with extensive experience developing sustainable and eco-efficient technologies for the finishing industry.

By bringing together our extensive knowledge, we enhanced the disruptive ozone technology through the optimized use of certified chemicals.

The result is a new way to minimize the environmental impact of the desizing process.

2 The chemicals involved

IDROSOLVAN RO7

High yield detergent for scouring and bleaching with outstanding emulsifying power towards fatty substances and silicon oils.

It's suitable for every kind of goods (knitted and woven fabrics) and highly efficient for blends with elastomeric fibers.

Idrosolvan RO7 is an extremely low foaming agent with excellent biodegradability, Approved by bluesign, ZDHC, GOTS, Inditex, and GRS compliant.

MEGALASE G24

Alfa-amylase enzyme for desizing of woven fabrics sized with starchy derivatives

It's effective at room temperature and up to 70-75°C, stable in a wide range of pH (6 - 10), and also in contact with extra-fibre substances (fatty derivatives, polyacrylates, waxes).

Megalase G24 degrades all kinds of starchy derivatives obtaining a high value on the Tegewa scale, presents an excellent biodegradability and it's GOTS approved and GRS compliant.

3 The Ozone system

ANUBIS & G2 DYNAMIC This line is an optimized solution for fabric finishing. Together, follows the sustainable alternative to some of the most pollutant processes in fabric finishing, as well as a perfect chance for the desizing process. The focus is on the reduction of water, waste-waters, and carbon footprint. The system could be settled in the middle of the traditional continuous production line.

Thanks to this system, it is controlled the shrinkage, relaxing the fabric, in addition to giving a flatness look and dimensional stability. Removing reddish aspect and back staining. It is ideal for woven fabrics: cellulosic, synthetic, and blends, especially for elastic fabrics.

4 The process

This process and its advantages are only feasible with the association of bozzetto, with the products MAGALASE G24 and IDROSOLVAN R07 in the finishing process including the Anubis & G2 Dynamic ozone by Jeanologia. This collaboration makes possible a sustainable desizing process in a continuous production range with a shorter lead line.

• Continuous line at 50 m/min • Water consumption: l - 3 I/kg • Wet Pick-up 70% - 75%

5 Benefit for facilities

7 - 10 I/kg Water saved • Sustainable process • Reduction in carbon footprint • Reducing waste-waters (ETP) • Complete removal of starch derivative • Fabric handfeel significantly softer • High-level washing achieved • High weft's back staining effect - unique process for PES or PA • Improve crocking & fastness • Removing from 4 to 6 washing boxes • Shorter lead line • Increasing production

6 Benefit for laundries

No need to desize garments • Wash friendly • 28% EIM Improvement • 80% Saving compared to traditional desizing • Remarkable drop in the second quality goods numbers • Contributes to darker cast • Avoiding redeposition in pockets • Enhanced laser effects: - Better 3D Look - Higher laser brightness - No PP Spray use - 20% Less laser time
